TestMedica Ketone Diet Stix are used for monitoring Benign Dietary Ketosis (BDK). Low carbohydrate (Ketogenic) weight loss diets put the body in a fat burning state. When body fat is used up, it ultimately breaks down into compounds called "ketone bodies." Therefore, the presence of ketone bodies can be the result of fat metabolization.

Measure your Fat Burn BDK quickly and easily with these test strips. The more ketones you release, the more fat you've dissolved. Some diet plans try to keep the dieter in the moderate range so that the dieter can chart his/her progress. If the amount of ketones present becomes too large, they can add more carbohydrates; if the amount becomes too small, they can cut back on carbohydrates.

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Dip reagent end of strip in FRESH, well mixed urine and remove immediately. (Or, wet reagent area by passing through urine stream.)

    2. While removing, run the edge of the strip against the rim of the urine container to remove excess urine.

    3. Compare the test area with the color chart at the time specified (60 seconds).

NOTE: The Ketosis referred to here is what is called "Benign Dietary Ketosis" (or BDK), and should never be confused with Acidosis - a dangerous state for diabetics and those in advanced starvation where acetone builds in the blood and tissues.
